The brief for this garden was for low maintenance as the owners were abroad for long periods of time. Gravel replaces lawn, and the bold exotic foliage reminds the owners of foreign parts.
The owners wanted a warm Mediterranean feel to this enclosed space. The yellow ochre walls glow in the morning sun, and the terracotta pots and riven paving enhance the feel of a sun-soaked courtyard.
The nearby river Severn was the inspiration for this naturalistic stream and pond. Curved Hazel hurdles fit with the rural setting of this new farmhouse.
This former vegetable garden has been transformed into a formal space with a spacious lawn, clipped Yew and Box hedges, and shade tolerant planting.
The garden around this farmhouse in the Severn Vale is exposed to winds from all four points of the compass. In time the interlocking circles of Hornbeam hedging will provide a double defence, as well as creating a sense of enclosure and more privacy.
