Contemporary garden
This garden was installed by the Cotswold Gardening Company over the winter of 2010/11, a challenging time for contractors with long periods below freezing.
The brief was for a low maintenance family garden with spaces for dining and sitting in sun and shade.
The clients were keen to do some of the planting themselves at their own pace, so I provided a list within the chosen colour palette giving plant names, plus guidance on position and spacing for the ground cover and perennials. The main shrub planting was installed by the contractor in early spring.
The garden was lacking privacy from the upstairs windows of neighbouring properties so the lower lawn is edged with tall Bamboos and Pittosporum, and the pergola is fitted with training wires to enable climbers to create a fragrant canopy.
Decking was the preferred hard material and the use of timber for the crushed slate steps, pergola and sleeper wall provide unifying colour and texture. The slatted panels on the lower fence add to the contemporary theme and make the garden look bigger. The clients new garden furniture had just been delivered, and was waiting on the deck to be unpacked.
The central bed will in time provide a see-through screen to create more privacy for the deck and ground floor rooms.
